Our Story

Who We Are

We are proud to be Melbourne’s first African-led rehabilitation centre, providing culturally responsive, trauma-informed support for substance use and mental health recovery.

Based in Cranbourne, we deliver community-led addiction recovery programs designed for African-Australian individuals and families across Melbourne and Victoria.

Our professional team understands the unique challenges faced by our community, offering holistic care that promotes healing, connection, and long-term wellbeing.

Guiding Principles

No Wrong Door

We make access to treatment straightforward and welcoming and always ensure service users have a positive and therapeutic experience from the moment they reach out for support.

Holistic Individualised Support

Our caring practitioners will work with individuals to match their unique treatment needs by providing culturally tailored support and advocacy to help them access various services through referrals and collaboration with diverse support services and agencies.

Family & Community Support

We respect and acknowledge the critical role of family/carers in the service user's recovery. Families are involved in the recovery process through the provision of therapeutic family services, education, and counselling as well as the importance of linking family/carers into support for themselves.

Cultural Safety

Service users will receive support from professionals who understand clients backgrounds and embrace their diverse cultural strengths to reach their recovery goals.

A Message from Our Founder

As an African migrant and refugee, I have firsthand experience with the challenges of migration and cultural dislocation.

I founded Nas Recovery Centre out of deep concern for the many African Australians struggling with substance use and mental health challenges, often unable to access care that truly understands their needs. Families were breaking apart, young people were entering the justice system, and stigma was preventing individuals from seeking help. I knew that if we wanted real change, we had to create it ourselves. Nas is for the community and by the community.

I am proud of our pioneering project, Path2Home, which serves as a guiding light, that has led many individuals and families facing severe substance dependence and mental health challenges to overcome addiction and achieve sustained recovery, community reintegration, and employment. Their stories highlight the resilience of the human spirit and the transformative power of support and care.

We aimed to create a home-like environment where people feel understood, where culture is recognised as a strength, and where healing happens without fear or judgment.
